Ghana Roads Minister threatens EOCO action over inflated compensation claims

Ghanaian Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government is considering referring two quantity surveyors to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for investigation. The move follows allegations that certain surveyors are attempting to inflate compensation claims for properties affected by road construction projects.

Mr. Agbodza stated that these individuals allegedly persuade property owners to reject official government valuations by promising compensation amounts four to six times higher than the assessed values. This practice has reportedly caused significant financial losses to the state and led to project delays, as affected persons often seek court injunctions against construction works.

The Minister made these remarks during an inspection of a two-kilometre access road linking Feyiase to the Sewua Regional Hospital in the Ashanti Region, a project being executed by Kofi Job Construction Limited. He urged property owners to rely on authorized government assessments rather than external surveyors seeking to renegotiate compensation through deceptive means.
