Ghana seeks Canadian oil and gas investment ahead of 2026 Global Energy Summit

Ghana’s Petroleum Commission is courting Canadian investors for its upstream oil and gas sector ahead of the 2026 Global Energy Summit in Canada. Commission officials met prospective investors at the summit’s exhibition booth, showcasing opportunities in both offshore and on‑shore basins, especially the Voltaian Basin that covers about 40% of the country’s land area.

Chief Executive Officer Emeafa Hardcastle said Ghana offers “significant hydrocarbon potential across mature, frontier, on‑shore and off‑shore basins” and highlighted the country’s common‑law legal framework, existing training partnerships, and plans to drill the first exploration well in the Voltaian Basin between Q4 2026 and Q1 2027. With three offshore fields already producing, Ghana aims to de‑risk its petroleum sector and invite Canadian expertise in advanced oilfield technologies, gas infrastructure and sustainable hydrocarbon development.
