Ghana seizes millions in cash and assets linked to drug trafficking

The Ghanaian government has seized approximately GH¢6.9 million and US$440,000 in cash linked to suspected drug traffickers. Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak announced the seizures during the Government Accountability Series, stating that the intelligence-led campaign aims to disrupt the financial networks and assets of traffickers rather than focusing solely on users and distributors.

In addition to the cash, authorities have traced 73 assets connected to suspected drug-related activities and seized roughly 19 kilograms of gold involved in suspected money laundering cases. Between January 2025 and July 2026, security agencies reported seizing over 8,500 kilograms of narcotics and approximately 45.4 million tramadol tablets. The intensified enforcement efforts have resulted in 217 arrests and 165 initiated prosecutions.
