Ghana settles $700 million Eurobond early, bolstering fiscal confidence

Ghana’s Ministry of Finance announced that on 2 July 2026 the government paid off a $700 million Eurobond ahead of schedule, consisting of $525.2 million in principal and $174.8 million in interest. The payment was financed through planned financing arrangements and did not place undue pressure on foreign‑exchange reserves.

The settlement brings total payments to Eurobond holders since January 2025 to $2.1 billion, further reducing Ghana’s external debt burden. Officials said the early repayment demonstrates Ghana’s commitment to prudent public debt management, supports macro‑economic stability, and is expected to reinforce investor confidence as the country continues its fiscal reform programme under the IMF Policy Coordination Instrument.
