Ghana Supreme Court dismisses injunction in SkyTrain corruption trial

The Supreme Court of Ghana has dismissed an interlocutory injunction filed by Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), in the ongoing $2 million SkyTrain corruption trial.

Asamoah had sought to restrain the High Court from proceeding with the trial while he challenged a previous ruling that denied his submission of ‘no case to answer’. Justice Senyo Dzamefe ruled that the application did not disclose a serious case to be tried and noted that the issues were more appropriate for an appeal. The court also found that the High Court judge had not exceeded his jurisdiction.

The case involves allegations that Asamoah and former GIIF Board Chairman Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi approved a $2 million payment to a South African company for the SkyTrain project without required board authorization. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to willfully cause financial loss to the Republic and conspiracy to intentionally dissipate public funds.

Following the dismissal, the High Court has scheduled September 23 for the accused to file their defense. Meanwhile, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi has filed a separate application for a stay of proceedings, which is expected to be heard by the Court of Appeal on September 1, 2026.
