Ghana Supreme Court to rule on Sky Train trial injunction

The Supreme Court of Ghana is scheduled to rule on Monday, August 31, 2026, regarding an application by Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), to halt his ongoing Sky Train scandal trial.

Asamoah, the first accused in the case, is seeking an interlocutory injunction to suspend High Court proceedings. His legal team is requesting that the Supreme Court quash a High Court decision that rejected his ‘submission of no case’ and ordered him to begin his defense. The defense argues that the trial should not proceed to the defense stage until the Supreme Court determines the validity of the certiorari application.

Additionally, Asamoah is challenging a High Court decision that varied his bail conditions. The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, is opposing both applications. The Sky Train trial involves charges of stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. Asamoah is being tried alongside former GIIF Board chairman Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi; both men deny the charges.
