Ghana targets pan-African job markets for youth through AI and digital tools

Ghana’s Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced initiatives to connect Ghanaian youth to employment opportunities across the African continent. Speaking at the Pan-African AI & Innovation Summit 2026 in Accra, the Minister emphasized the need for a borderless talent ecosystem supported by portable qualifications and frameworks like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

To bridge the gap between skills training and economic participation, the government is utilizing digital tools such as the National Youth Tracker Platform and the YouthXplore App. These platforms leverage data and artificial intelligence to link young people with jobs, apprenticeships, mentorship, and capital.

Key programs mentioned include the One Million Coders Programme and the Adwumawura Programme, which focus on high-growth sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital services, agribusiness, and manufacturing. The Minister also called for increased private sector involvement to ensure that educational curricula align with actual labor market demands and create sustainable employment pipelines.
