Ghana teachers' strike leaves Old Edubiase pupils hawking goods
A nationwide strike by pre-tertiary teachers in Ghana has left classrooms empty for three weeks, significantly impacting students in the Old Edubiase community within the Ashanti Region's Adansi North District.
With no instruction taking place, many pupils at the Old Edubiase Methodist Basic School have turned to alternative activities during school hours. Some children have become petty traders, hawking boiled eggs and sachet water on the streets, while others are working on cocoa and food crop farms alongside their parents.
The disruption is causing particular anxiety for students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Candidates have expressed frustration and worry regarding their upcoming mock exams, noting that no revision or teaching has occurred during the industrial action.
