Ghana technical university leaders and union called to resolve strike

The Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G) have urged the Technical Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) to suspend its ongoing strike to protect the academic calendar and student welfare. The industrial action, which began on 1 October 2026, has halted teaching and learning across the nation's technical universities.

In response to the disruption, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has summoned university management and TUTAG leadership to a meeting scheduled for 28 October 2026. The session aims to foster dialogue between vice-chancellors, finance directors, registrars, and union representatives to address the grievances driving the strike.

Ahead of the GTEC meeting, TUTAG’s national executive is expected to hold an Extraordinary Congress on 26 October to deliberate on proposals from the vice-chancellors regarding a potential suspension of the strike.
