Ghana COCOBOD raises cocoa producer price to GH¢42,400 per tonne

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has increased the cocoa producer price to GH¢42,400 per tonne for the 2026/27 season, representing a 2.4% rise from the previous GH¢41,392 per tonne. This translates to GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogram bag, an increase of GH¢63 per bag compared to the 2025/26 season.

Effective September 25, 2026, the new price accounts for 71.18% of the realized Gross Free-on-Board (FOB) value, exceeding the 70% minimum floor mandated by the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026. This new legislation introduces an automatic adjustment mechanism linked to international prices and exchange rates to protect farmer incomes.

Alongside pricing changes, COCOBOD is implementing structural reforms to improve financial sustainability. These include a new financing framework aimed at reducing reliance on international syndicated loans by mobilizing domestic capital through a proposed Cocoa Notes Programme. The government also continues productivity enhancement programs, such as providing free fertilizer and hybrid seedlings, to support farm yields.
