Ghana to procure 100 new ambulances for NAS by 2027

Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government will procure 100 new ambulances for the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in 2027. This initiative aims to strengthen the country’s pre-hospital emergency response system and expand operational capacity to improve access to care nationwide.

In addition to the new procurement, 30 ambulances retrieved from the Ghana Air Force Base at Burma Camp are currently undergoing refurbishment and will be reintegrated into the national fleet upon completion. The Minister also noted that additional funding will be allocated for the repair and maintenance of existing vehicles to address challenges posed by an aging fleet.

During a high-level mid-year review retreat in Ho, Akandoh emphasized the importance of completing the Legal Instrument (LI) for the NAS to establish a stronger regulatory framework for its long-term development and effective operation.
