Ghana to use military as subcontractor for Accra-Kumasi Expressway

President John Mahama has announced that the procurement process for the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway has officially commenced. The project is being treated as a major national infrastructure initiative intended to improve connectivity between the southern and northern regions of Ghana.

Following the successful clearing of the expressway corridor by the Ghana Armed Forces, the military is set to transition into a paid subcontracting role. Under this arrangement, the armed forces will serve as a major subcontractor to the primary construction firm selected through the competitive procurement process.

The announcement was made during a meeting with the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, led by President Nana Barima Twereku Ampem III. The President expressed confidence that the project would progress toward commissioning within approximately three years.
