Ghana Tourism Minister advances heritage conservation and site protection

Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, is advancing heritage conservation efforts through international partnerships and domestic site protection. During discussions with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, Gomashie emphasized that the growing partnership with the Republic of Korea should focus on people-to-people exchanges and cultural understanding to benefit younger generations, moving beyond mere financial and technical support.

The initiative follows UNESCO recommendations from 2022 and 2024 for Ghana to safeguard its heritage sites. Additionally, Gomashie has engaged the Danish Ambassador regarding potential collaborations to restore Osu Castle and Fort Prinzenstein.

On a domestic level, the Minister conducted a tour of the Bono and Bono East regions, visiting the Kintampo Waterfalls. While praising local authorities for preserving the site, Gomashie issued a stern warning to encroachers and land grabbers, stating that the government will protect these national treasures at all costs.
