Ghana Vice President calls for stricter building safety after Accra industrial collapse

A multi‑storey building collapsed in the North Industrial Area of Greater Accra, prompting rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation, the police and the armed forces to conduct excavation and recovery operations.

Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang visited the site, inspected the debris and praised the emergency responders. She urged strict adherence to construction and safety regulations, warned against building in flood‑prone waterways, and called for thorough investigations and accountability to prevent similar tragedies.

The incident has raised public concern over construction standards and enforcement of building codes in Ghana.
