Ghana Football Association announces major financial package for 2026/27 season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced an extensive financial and developmental package ahead of the 2026/27 football season. During its 32nd Ordinary Congress in Prampram, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku revealed a GH¢9.5 million incentive package for the Ghana Premier League. Under this structure, the league champions will receive a record GH¢3 million, while the runners-up will earn GH¢1 million. Additionally, all 18 Premier League clubs will receive an upfront payment of GH¢1 million to assist with operational costs and squad building.

Support extends to lower tiers and women’s football, with over GH¢16 million committed to the Division One League and the Women’s Premier League. Division One clubs will receive GH¢120,000 each, while the 20 clubs in the Women’s Premier League will receive GH¢100,000 each. The GFA will also continue to cover referee and match commissioner fees for these leagues.

New welfare and development initiatives were also unveiled. The GFA Foundation will launch a US$200,000 player welfare fund over four years to provide healthcare support for former national team players. Furthermore, the “One Player, Three Football” policy will provide three footballs to every registered player across various leagues for the next four years to encourage technical skill development through regular practice.
