Ghana Water Ltd completes Kpong-Tema pipeline repairs
Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has completed repairs on the 21-inch and 42-inch Kpong-Tema transmission pipelines. The maintenance exercise, which began on August 6, 2026, involved replacing weak sections of the aging infrastructure serving parts of the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
While water production has resumed at the Kpong Treatment Plant, GWL warned that a full return to normal water supply will not be immediate. The company stated that transmission lines and reservoirs must be progressively refilled to rebuild operating pressure.
To ensure equitable distribution during this stabilization period, GWL’s water demand management and rationing programs remain in effect. Consumers in affected communities are advised to continue following their existing rationing schedules. Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu credited the timely completion of the project to the coordination between GWL and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
