Ghanaian economic policy and trade initiatives highlighted

The IMANI Center for Policy and Education, in partnership with the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), hosted a four-day African Liberty Academy. The program, themed ‘Africa Ascent: Forging Resilient Economies and Inclusive Governance,’ focused on economic freedom and governance for students and young professionals. Franklin Cudjoe, President and CEO of IMANI Africa, emphasized that African nations must move beyond rhetoric to implement policies that reduce dependence on primary commodity exports and build resilience against external shocks.

Separately, the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) and the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS Africa) held a high-level roundtable to discuss Ghana’s potential under China’s zero-tariff policy. The discussion aimed to help Ghanaian businesses translate preferential market access into successful commercial outcomes. Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song, noted that while the policy lowers costs for African products, success requires identifying priority products, addressing institutional bottlenecks, and aligning domestic production standards with Chinese market requirements.
