Ghanaian local government authorities hold leadership workshops for assembly members

The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), has conducted leadership training for assembly members in the Ashanti Region.

In Kwadwoaso, a two-day workshop focused on strengthening governance, decision-making, and service delivery. The curriculum included the Local Government Act, corporate governance, oversight responsibilities, and the enforcement of assembly by-laws. Municipal Chief Executive Eric Asibey encouraged participants to utilize the training to improve leadership at the local level.

In Kumasi, the “Next Generation Leadership Training” addressed elected and appointed members regarding legislation, financial management, and stakeholder engagement. NALAG President Alfred Asiedu Adjei emphasized the importance of accountability, urging members to monitor public funds and ensure that resources result in tangible developments in sanitation, roads, health, and education. He also stressed that political affiliations should not hinder members from addressing constituent concerns.
