Ghanaian Minority demands records on GH¢49m South Africa evacuation spending

The Minority in Parliament is demanding full documentary records regarding the GH¢49 million spent on the emergency evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from South Africa. The call for transparency focuses on the procurement arrangements used during the operation.

Honourable Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho and Deputy Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, stated that while the urgency of the mission might justify exceptional or single-source procurement, it does not exempt the government from accountability. He emphasized that emergency measures must still be supported by proper documentation, including supplier identities, contracts, invoices, and evidence of payment.

The Minority is specifically requesting detailed records for both chartered and commercial flights used during the exercise, such as booking confirmations, quotations, and payment vouchers. The objective is to establish how public funds were committed and to ensure that the expenditure followed appropriate legal procedures.
