Ghana port officials remanded after €225m cocaine seizure in France

French authorities intercepted approximately 3.9 tonnes of cocaine, valued at €225 million, at the port of Dunkirk on September 10, 2026. The shipment, concealed in containers of plastic waste, originated from Ghana.

In Ghana, six individuals—including four Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs officers—have been remanded by the Kwabenya Circuit Court. Prosecutors allege the officers mishandled the scanning process at Tema Port, with one officer, Frank Adu-Boahen, reportedly sharing his authentication credentials to bypass security protocols. Other accused include freight forwarder Francis Narh Amanor.

Ten people have been arrested in total. The investigation has also identified Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, also known as ‘Bolle Jos’, as a person of interest linked to the trafficking network.

In response to the security breach, the Ghanaian government has revoked a 2018 directive to allow the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to participate in port screenings. Additionally, the Minority in Parliament has requested an extraordinary sitting to investigate the effectiveness of Ghana’s customs controls and intelligence gathering.
