Ghanaian NPP alleges irregularities in South Africa evacuation funds
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised allegations of financial irregularities and data discrepancies regarding the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa. NPP Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye alleged that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa dismissed his personal bodyguard following claims that the aide pocketed $10,000 from the evacuation funds.
Further scrutiny has been directed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' records. NPP Policy Committee spokesperson Kofi Tonto identified significant errors in the evacuation beneficiary list, including impossible dates of birth, such as individuals recorded as being born in 2034 or 2036, and a birth date of February 31, 1990. Tonto also cited concerns regarding duplicate passport numbers and alleged double payments to beneficiaries.
The NPP is demanding that Minister Ablakwa provide clarity on the dismissal of the bodyguard and the inconsistencies in the documentation, including instances where beneficiaries reportedly did not sign for the financial assistance they were recorded as receiving.
