Ghanaian officials advance healthcare and infrastructure projects
Ghanaian officials are overseeing various healthcare and infrastructure developments across the country. Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has ordered the immediate deployment of 10 medical doctors and 30 nurses and midwives to the Weija Children’s Specialist Hospital. Following an inspection of the 120-bed facility, the Minister noted that the hospital, which serves as a standalone children’s referral centre, has most of its required equipment installed and is currently providing inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.
In the Western North Region, Regional Minister Wilbert Petty Brentum reported that a 25-bed maternity block in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, which had been abandoned since 2013, is nearing completion. During an inspection tour of the municipality, the Minister also assessed progress on several educational and health facilities, including classroom blocks and community health compounds.
Additionally, Minister Brentum addressed delays regarding a planned 24-hour economy market in Sefwi Wiawso. He attributed the delays to land acquisition challenges but assured residents that the project is not abandoned. The facility is intended to boost local and international trade and is expected to include a health post, a creche, and a fire post.
