Ghanaian security forces allegedly assault media workers during beach demolition
Military and police personnel allegedly assaulted journalists and civilians during a demolition exercise at La Pleasure Beach in Accra, Ghana, on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Blogger SikaOfficial reported being struck with a rod by a soldier while attempting to document the operation. This follows a separate incident involving activist and media personality Ralph St. Williams, who also alleged he was struck by a military officer while complying with orders to move back from the site.
The demolition, conducted by a joint team from the Ghana Armed Forces' 48 Engineer Regiment and the Ghana Police Service, targeted several structures in the La Beach area. Reports indicate that tensions escalated as security forces attempted to push media workers, bloggers, and local traders away from the site, leading to claims of unprofessional conduct and physical violence against those covering the public event.
