Ghana Sets National Conference to Tackle Senior High School Indiscipline

Ghana's Ministry of Education will hold a National Conference on Stemming Indiscipline in Senior High Schools from 29–30 July 2026 in Sunyani. Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu met with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to discuss the surge in violent and disruptive incidents at second‑cycle institutions, including assaults, a fatal stabbing and alleged gang rape recorded earlier in 2026.

The two‑day conference will bring together school administrators, teachers, students, parents, traditional and religious leaders, civil‑society groups, security forces and development partners. Participants are expected to examine the root causes of indiscipline and propose practical, sustainable interventions. Recommendations will be compiled into a policy paper to guide the Ministry in developing a coordinated national framework for values‑based education and safer learning environments for Ghanaian students.
