Ghana’s GNPC seeks $3.5 bn investment as fuel prices may fall
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) told participants at the West Africa Gas Summit that sustaining the country’s growing natural‑gas demand will require more than US$3.5 billion in new upstream capital. The firm plans to inject the money into the Jubilee, TEN and OCTP fields to boost oil and gas output, expand gas‑gathering infrastructure and support the planned Tema LNG project, aiming to make Ghana a regional energy hub.
Separately, the National Petroleum Authority’s Upper East Regional Manager said that improving global oil‑market conditions could translate into lower fuel prices for Ghanaian consumers in the coming months. Since the downstream sector was deregulated in July 2015, fuel pricing follows market signals, but continued stability in crude prices and exchange rates, together with Ghana’s own refining capacity, may allow price reductions.
Both officials stressed that sustained investment and stable international markets are essential for the country’s energy security and broader economic growth.
