Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission busts major cannabis hub in Volta Region

On June 22, 2026, Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) carried out an overnight raid on a suspected cannabis production and storage facility spanning Koleonu, Wegbe and Akplamafu in the Volta Region. The operation, described as a fully functional hub for cultivating, processing and distributing cannabis and hashish oil, led to the arrest of three primary suspects who are now in custody and cooperating with investigators.

NACOC noted that the raid recovered hashish oil, indicating a more advanced operation than simple cultivation. Earlier in the year, a May 31 raid in Gbi‑Wegbe seized 2,372.38 kg of suspected cannabis worth about GH¢1.19 million but yielded no arrests. Authorities say much of the regional cannabis is trafficked to Nigeria and other countries, and investigations will continue to trace additional collaborators and supply routes.
