Ghana's New Patriotic Party faces internal split over Mampong polling station elections

More than 1,000 New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Asante Mampong constituency have threatened to boycott the party's polling station executive elections, accusing the party leadership of irregularities and a lack of transparency. The group says petitions on the constituency register have gone unanswered and that only 70 of the 145 polling stations were slated for a rerun, prompting accusations of manipulation aimed at influencing upcoming parliamentary primaries.

The members also allege that an unapproved voter register was used during the halted elections on May 14, and that discrepancies between the original register and a newly generated PDF version could disenfranchise eligible participants. They demand an audit of the register, restoration of removed names, and adherence to agreed guidelines before any further voting takes place. The dispute comes as the NPP seeks to rebuild its grassroots structures following its defeat in the 2024 general election.
