Ghana's New Patriotic Party pushes for unity after internal leadership contests
Former Bongo constituency chair aspirant Eric Akurugu said his defeat in the NPP constituency executive elections will not deter his commitment to party unity. He urged reconciliation, proposing a Constituency Reconciliation Committee to address divisions that have kept the NPP from winning the Bongo parliamentary seat since 1992.
Party officials highlighted John Boadu as a tested leader capable of uniting the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections. Boadu’s role in stabilising the party during the 2014‑15 crisis and contributing to its 2016 victory was cited as evidence that a cohesive chairman‑flagbearer partnership is essential for future success.
