Ghana's NPP faces Ashanti regional leadership clash over internal elections

Grassroots members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana's Ashanti Region have called on General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua to resign, alleging that his leadership has deepened internal divisions and compromised the credibility of party elections. Spokesperson Prince Opoku warned that unresolved court injunctions and irregularities in constituency polls have harmed the party's image ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Simultaneously, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, rebuffed Kodua's authority to nullify regional constituency results, insisting that such decisions rest with regional and constituency chairmen under the party constitution. Wontumi warned Kodua to stay out of Ashanti affairs and suggested the General Secretary might be attempting to block his bid for national chairmanship.
