Ghana's NPP prepares leadership reforms ahead of 2026 delegates conference

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, said he is ready to lead the party back to power. He urged stronger engagement with the diaspora, promised to strengthen grassroots structures and announced plans to discuss possible reforms to the party’s delegate system, including greater member involvement in electing executives.

Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei‑Mensah‑Bonsu warned that the party’s current leadership arrangement could cause internal conflict if it does not clarify the constitutional role of the presidential candidate versus the national chairman. He said the upcoming National Delegates Conference on 19 September 2026 will consider amendments, such as formally recognising the presidential candidate as party leader and expanding the duties of polling‑station executives to boost membership tracking and house‑to‑house campaigning. Members can submit amendment proposals by 17 July 2026.
