Ghana's Vice President Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang unveils 24‑Hour Economy recovery plan

Ghana’s Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang addressed the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada on 19 June 2026, presenting a comprehensive economic recovery blueprint. The plan centres on a "24‑Hour Economy" policy that encourages businesses to operate around the clock, aiming to boost productivity, lower inflation and create mass employment. It also includes a "Big Push" infrastructure programme to overhaul national road networks and improve rural‑to‑urban connectivity, reducing transport costs for farmers.

Social initiatives were highlighted alongside structural reforms: the Feed Ghana programme will establish Farmer Service Centres; the "No‑Fees Stress" policy removes tuition barriers; free primary healthcare will be expanded; a Women’s Development Bank will provide credit to female entrepreneurs; and the MahamaCares relief fund targets vulnerable groups. Opoku‑Agyemang called on overseas Ghanaians to invest and share expertise, framing diaspora participation as essential to the country’s long‑term transformation.
