Gharbia Governorate busts subsidized bread smuggling, seizes 12,700 loaves and 35 flour sacks
During the Eid al‑Adha holidays, the Gharbia Governorate intensified inspections of municipal bakeries and markets to prevent abuse of the subsidised bread and flour program. Under the direction of Governor Dr. Alaa Abdel‑Maati and deputy minister Nasser Al‑Afifi, authorities seized 12,700 subsidised loaves prepared for illegal resale and confiscated 35 sacks of subsidised flour.
The operations resulted in more than 90 violation reports against bakeries for infractions such as under‑weight loaves, non‑conforming specifications, poor sanitation, missing data boards and failure to issue bread vouchers to citizens. Officials warned that any attempt to divert public food subsidies for profit will be met with strict legal action, emphasizing the priority of delivering aid to eligible households and protecting public funds.
