Gia Lai delays start of rental housing project while reallocating surplus public buildings

The Ministry of Construction ordered all provinces to begin at least one rental‑housing project by June 2026. Gia Lai province has not yet commenced construction, citing insufficient time to complete land‑use and investment procedures. The province estimates a need for about 7,500 rental units by 2030, mainly for industrial workers, and is gathering data and preparing land and funding mechanisms, though the provincial housing fund is still being organised.

Following recent administrative restructuring, Gia Lai now has 1,132 surplus public buildings and land parcels. Authorities have repurposed 573 of these for offices, cultural or community use, while the remaining 559 are idle. Plans include allocating small sites for residential development, leasing larger sites to attract investment, and retaining some properties as a reserve fund to support future economic and social projects. The measures aim to generate revenue, avoid waste, and provide additional resources for the province’s development goals.
