Gia Lai opens new boarding schools for ethnic minority students

Seven new boarding schools have opened in the border communes of Gia Lai province, marking a significant investment in education for ethnic minority students. The large-scale project, funded by central and provincial budgets with over 1,516 billion VND, covers nearly 52 hectares and is designed to accommodate 212 classrooms and more than 7,100 students upon completion.

To support the new facilities, Gia Lai authorities are addressing staffing shortages. While there is a total requirement for 457 staff members, only 302 are currently in place. The province has responded by adding 80 permanent positions and 42 contract positions, alongside transferring 24 teachers from areas with surpluses and appointing seven vice-principals to assist with management.

The new schools, including the Ia Púch Primary and Lower Secondary Boarding School, aim to reduce the challenges faced by families in remote areas, such as the Gia Rai, Thai, and Ba Na communities, who previously struggled with long and dangerous commutes for their children.
