Gia Lai Province stalls disaster resettlement projects, criticism mounts

By the end of June 2026, only 31 of the targeted 980 households had moved to newly built homes under Gia Lai's disaster‑prone area resettlement program. The provincial government had planned to relocate 1,858 households across 16 sites, allocating more than VND 2,108 billion for land acquisition, compensation, and infrastructure.

Progress remains slow: only 161 households have had compensation plans approved, 245 have been assigned plots, and the majority of infrastructure—roads, electricity, water, and site preparation—remains incomplete. Specific projects such as Phù Mỹ Đông, An Quang Đông, and Trà Công are cited for delays in land handover, compensation approval, and construction. The provincial authorities have publicly criticized multiple units and localities for these shortcomings and called for faster land release, infrastructure completion, and the relocation of residents.

The delayed implementation has left many families in high‑risk zones exposed to landslides and floods, prompting calls for tighter coordination among investors, local governments, and relevant agencies.
