Jaxson Dart clears concussion protocol after heavy hit in Giants preseason opener

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart underwent a concussion evaluation during the team’s preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. The scare occurred in the first quarter after Dart was heavily sacked by Vikings safety Jay Ward.

After being escorted to the medical tent, Dart was cleared to return to the field just plays later. Upon his return, he threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields. Dart finished the game completing three of four passes for 26 yards and one touchdown.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh addressed the hit following the 13-10 loss, stating that the team “need to block better.” While Dart expressed being puzzled by the medical tent visit, noting he only had the wind knocked out of him, the incident drew attention to his history of injury concerns during his rookie season.
