Gibraltar explores using 9,000 parking spaces in La Línea

The Government of Gibraltar is evaluating the use of approximately 9,000 parking spaces in La Línea to manage expected traffic increases resulting from new flight connections. This strategy follows interest from various airlines to operate new routes between Gibraltar and destinations in Spain, France, the Netherlands, and other parts of Europe, with some services projected to begin by summer 2027.

Transport Minister John Cortes stated that initial discussions have begun with the La Línea City Council to explore the possibility of airport passengers using parking facilities on the Spanish side of the border. Proposed options include utilizing public and private spaces, including areas near the local stadium. The plan involves promoting these spaces so tourists and travelers can park in La Línea and access Gibraltar via walking or public transport.

Additionally, authorities are studying the implementation of a shuttle service from the Spanish side to the border. Within Gibraltar, the government is also considering the construction of a multi-story parking structure at the current airport site, though this would require temporary removal of existing parking areas during construction.
