GIGA Storage secures €450 million financing for Belgium's 700 MW Green Turtle battery

GIGA Storage, the European operator of large‑scale energy‑storage projects, has reached financial close for its Green Turtle battery in Belgium. A consortium of ten international banks – including ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank, Triodos Bank, Belfius, Santander and SMBC – will provide €450 million of debt financing, while InfraVia Capital Partners contributes the remaining equity.

The 700 MW, 2,800 MWh facility, located on the Rotem industrial site in Dilsen‑Stokkem, is slated to begin construction in September 2026 and be commissioned in 2028. Tesla has been chosen as the EPC partner, supplying its Megablock technology. Once operational, Green Turtle will be connected to Elia’s 380 kV high‑voltage grid and will store excess solar and wind power, delivering electricity equivalent to the daily consumption of roughly 385,000 households and enhancing Belgium’s supply security.

CEO Kevin Dijkers highlighted the project’s role in strengthening Belgium’s energy infrastructure and reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. GIGA Storage aims to have more than 2 GW of storage capacity online by 2030.
