Gigantio showcases sustainable pirarucu leather at Amazon Poranga Fashion

The Gigantio collection, titled ‘Gigantio | Tempo-Memória em Nós’, was showcased at the Amazon Poranga Fashion event. The initiative, led by the Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS), highlights the use of sustainably managed pirarucu leather sourced from the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS).

The project is a collaboration between Amazonian designers, including Sioduhi Studio and Regina Ramos of Sapopema. To promote transparency and bioeconomy, the collection utilizes blockchain technology to provide traceability, allowing consumers to track the material from its origin to the final fashion piece.

According to Wildney Mourão, FAS entrepreneurship program manager, the project aims to transform Amazonian sociobiodiversity into economic opportunities, generating income for local communities while promoting environmental conservation through innovation and creativity.
