Gilbert Kenneth Adjei appointed Ghana Minister of Defence

Gilbert Kenneth Adjei has been appointed as Ghana’s substantive Minister of Defence. The appointment has drawn calls from security experts and government officials to prioritize regional stability and modernize the nation's defense capabilities.

Security expert Abib Saani urged the new Minister to deepen security cooperation with neighboring countries to prevent terrorist groups and violent extremist networks from establishing a foothold in Ghana. Saani emphasized the need for enhanced intelligence-sharing, improved border surveillance, and joint security operations, particularly through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to address transnational threats in the West African sub-region.

Additionally, Saani called for the government to provide the Ghana Armed Forces with modern equipment, technology, and logistical support to protect territorial integrity across land, maritime, and air domains.

Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi also congratulated Adjei, expressing confidence that his tactical judgment and leadership experience would strengthen the country’s defense architecture.
