Mato Grosso Health CPI investigates pandemic contract irregularities

The Health Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) of the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly is investigating potential irregularities in contracts signed by the State Health Secretariat (SES) during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During a recent session, former Deputy Secretary of Hospital Management, Carolina Campos, testified as an investigated party. She requested a closed session to prevent her testimony from being used in an electoral context. Campos stated that she was not responsible for bidding, purchasing, or payments and maintained that she has provided evidence to the Public Ministry and the judiciary to demonstrate her lack of involvement in the alleged irregularities.

Additionally, Onair Azevedo Nogueira, former director of the Cáceres Regional Hospital, provided testimony as a witness via videoconference. The former State Secretary of Health, Gilberto Figueiredo, did not attend the session. His defense requested a rescheduling, citing his candidacy for state deputy and potential electoral impact. The commission has rescheduled his testimony for September 2 at 2:00 PM.
