Gilvan da Federal cleared to launch 2026 pre‑candidacy in Espírito Santo

Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) issued a provisional ruling allowing federal deputy Gilvan da Federal (PL) to begin his 2026 pre‑candidacy despite a conviction for gender‑based political violence and a separate transfobia conviction. The liminar suspends the effects of a regional electoral court decision, permitting Gilvan to participate in party conventions and request registration, but the merit of the case remains unexamined and the ruling could be reversed after a full judgment.

In the same state, the Socialist Party (Psol) reaffirmed its support for Professor Fabian's Senate pre‑candidacy, as announced by state deputy Camila Valadão. The party resisted pressure to withdraw Fabian, emphasizing alignment with President Lula's coalition. Internal disagreements persisted with allied parties, including Rede Sustentabilidade and the PCdoB, over candidate selections for the upcoming elections.
