Sigfrido Ranucci denies political candidacy amid legal investigations

Journalist Sigfrido Ranucci has addressed recent controversies following his removal from the investigative program Report. During a book presentation, Ranucci denied rumors of a political candidacy, stating that his primary goal is to return to investigative journalism and civil rights advocacy. He noted that while a Swg poll showed 63% of Italians consider him credible to lead the country, he views politics as a profession he is not suited for.

The situation is complicated by ongoing legal investigations in Rome. Prosecutors are investigating an October 2025 bombing at Ranucci’s home. Valter Lavitola has been accused of being the mastermind behind the attack. Authorities are currently working on extradition procedures for Gomes Tavares, an alleged intermediary in the case.

Additionally, Ranucci faces legal challenges from political figures, including a defamation lawsuit filed by MP Gimmi Cangiano. Ranucci has also denied allegations regarding secret Signal chats with Lavitola, dismissing them as false.
