Gimpo FC embezzlement exceeds 8 billion won

An investigation by Gimpo City has revealed that the scale of embezzlement at the K League 2 football club Gimpo FC has increased to over 8 billion won (approximately 900 million yen).

A staff member in their 30s is suspected of systematically stealing funds between 2023 and 2025 by falsely reporting that stolen money had been deposited into accounts. The investigation indicates that a portion of the embezzled funds was used for purchasing real estate in Japan and paying for luxury foreign vehicles.

Following the discovery, Gimpo FC representative director Hong Kyung-ho expressed his intention to resign to take responsibility. However, Gimpo City has declined to accept the resignation, stating that the facts of the case have not yet been fully established. The representative will remain in his position to cooperate fully with the ongoing police investigation. Gimpo Mayor Lee Ki-hyung criticized the lack of management oversight, and the city intends to pursue both criminal and civil liability.
