Gionta clan activity sparks tension and violence in Torre Annunziata

The Gionta crime clan in Torre Annunziata remains a source of significant social and legal tension. Recently, Carmela Gionta, sister of boss Valentino Gionta, sparked controversy by publicly attacking commemorations of murdered journalist Giancarlo Siani on social media. Her comments, which expressed hostility toward the remembrance of the reporter, were met with a firm refusal to cease civil memory activities by local priest Don Ciro Cozzolino.

This social friction coincides with escalating violence within the region. Following an assault on two Gionta affiliates at a Pompeii shopping center, a commando unit linked to the clan, reportedly led by the nephew of Valentino Gionta senior, carried out an armed retaliation. Investigations by the Naples DDA and local police have utilized surveillance footage and intercepted communications to track the group's movements, including the involvement of several individuals in a shooting incident near La Provolera.
