Giorgos Mavraganis linked to Paradise Papers amid Greek basketball investigation
New details have emerged regarding Giorgos Mavraganis, a businessman currently under investigation in a case involving the manipulation of Greek basketball matches. Documents from the Paradise Papers reveal that Mavraganis is a shareholder in Ludus Limited, a company based in Malta established in 2013. His connection to the offshore leak is supported by a registered address in Velo, Corinth, which matches the address used for his Greek business, ‘G. A. N. Afói Mavraganís O. E.’
Witness testimonies in the ongoing investigation describe Mavraganis’s alleged role in influencing referees and accessing restricted information. One witness, a former referee, claimed that Mavraganis exerted control over the Central Committee of Referees (KED), alleging that a single phone call from the businessman could influence referee assignments.
Further allegations include a former team official describing a conspiracy to promote the club Promitheas to the A1 league in 2016, involving a cash payment of 100,000 euros. Mavraganis, a close associate of Hellenic Basketball Clubs Organization (EOK) President Vangelis Liolios, is accused of using his connections to influence sporting outcomes and betting dynamics.
