Giorgos Mazonakis: Musician recalls 20-year collaboration

Thanasis Vasilas, a bouzouki player who collaborated with singer Giorgos Mazonakis for nearly 20 years, shared reflections on their professional relationship during an appearance on Studio 4. Vasilas, who worked with Mazonakis from 2004 until the summer of 2024, described the artist as an authentic performer who prioritized emotional honesty over provocation.

Vasilas noted that Mazonakis preferred quality over quantity, stating that while the singer could have performed 150 shows a year, he chose to limit them to approximately 50 to ensure he was genuinely enjoying the work. The musician highlighted Mazonakis's love for traditional folk music, specifically mentioning Stratos Dionysiou as a favorite, and emphasized that the singer's refusal to pretend on stage was what endeared him to his audience.
