Greek artists pay tribute to deceased singer Giorgos Mazonakis

The Greek music community has expressed profound grief following the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who passed away on September 9 at the age of 54 due to cardiac arrest.

Several prominent figures have shared personal reflections on his life and career. Composer Giorgos Sampanis described their relationship as being more than just friendship, stating, “I was more of his guardian.” Singer Panos Kiamos also expressed deep emotion, noting that the loss feels personal and significant. Actress Nelli Gkini, who knew Mazonakis since he was seven years old, described him as a dreamer with a passion for theater who often needed more love and support than he received during his career struggles.

Mazonakis’s recent participation in the talent show ‘The Voice of Greece’ was seen by colleagues as an attempt to reconnect with his audience. During a recent episode of the show, coach Paola honored his memory by performing a song they had previously sung together and sending a tribute to the sky, a moment that deeply moved the studio and fellow coaches.
