Giovanna Lancellotti to star in Carmen Miranda biopic

Actress Giovanna Lancellotti has been announced as the lead in ‘Carmen’, a new biopic about the iconic Brazilian singer and Hollywood star Carmen Miranda. Directed by Esmir Filho, the project is being produced by Lancellotti through her company, GL Filmes, alongside several international and domestic partners.

Lancellotti, who has been preparing for the role since 2021 through vocal, physical, and choreographic training, replaces Larissa Manoela, who departed the project in August due to scheduling conflicts. The production aims to explore the emotional depth and vulnerabilities of the woman behind the famous public persona.

The film has a budget of R$ 61 million and is scheduled to begin filming in the second half of 2027. Locations will include Rio de Janeiro, Petrópolis, Maricá, and New York. The release is expected in 2028.
