Giovanni Ruggiu appointed commander of Palermo Carabinieri Group

Lieutenant Colonel Giovanni Ruggiu has assumed command of the Carabinieri Group in Palermo. He was officially received at the ‘Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa’ barracks by the Commander of the Sicily Carabinieri Legion, Major General Ubaldo Del Monaco.

Ruggiu succeeds Colonel Aniello Schettino, who has been reassigned to lead the Carabinieri Trainee School in Rome. This appointment marks a return to the Palermo area for Ruggiu, who previously served as commander of the Carini Company from 2009 to 2013, where he coordinated investigations into organized crime.

His professional background includes commanding the Carabinieri Trainee Battalion at the Military Academy of Modena and serving in investigative units such as the ROS Anti-Crime Department in Rome and the Napoli Vomero Company. In his new role, Ruggiu will coordinate the group's territorial units to ensure security and community presence throughout the Sicilian capital.
